STEM Motivators: PBS Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers

STEM Educator Resource

Looking for a quick way to hook future STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) fans?

PBS Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers are short, golden nuggets of insight into the life of modern day scientists and engineers. From biology to astronomy, to nanoscience and engineers, PBS inspires future innovators andnew discovery, showing the role models and STEM heros of our day.

My students stop what they are doing during morning announcements and want to watch these PBS mini-guest speakers. “They are just like regular people,” one of my students volunteered.

PBS offers a buffet of science and engineer testimonies. I’m sure every teacher or speaker can find several to match their STEM message.

These short clips can be used for:

  • Bell Ringers
  • STEM or Science Club recruitment on morning annoucements
  • Features for February Black History Month
  • Science Video Cafe/Writing Practice (*students summarize main idea + make a connection to their own life)
  • Career Day/Virtual Guest Speaker
  • or a Wrap-Up activity to end your lesson.

If you have a STEM website to share, please post your idea and we will check it out.

It’s a great day to be a STEM science teacher!

~Kay
